Get set for a Vale Olympic weekend!
With only three days to go until the start of the London 2012 Olympic games, the Vale of Glamorgan council is encouraging everyone to get into the spirit and come along to the Vale Olympic and Paralympic Family Fun Day this Saturday in King Square. The aim of the day is to to celebrate the start of the Olympics and to promote the activities that take place across the Vale.
The event will run in Kings Square / Central Park, Barry from 11 - 3pm this Saturday 28th July. Activities will include :
• Olympic inspired play activities
• Paralympic sports of goalball and sitting volleyball
• Basketball
• Athletics
• Volleyball
• Dragon Multiskills
• Rhythmic gymnastics (in conjunction with Barry YMCA Gymnastics Club)
• Badminton (in conjunction with Badminton Wales)
• Football (in conjunction with Vale Girls Football Club)
There will be competitions taking place during the day where Olympic themed medals can be won. Medals will also be distributed to participants who try hard and show Olympic inspired values. To promote the 7 Olympic values the team have also created an Olympic Values card.
For every activity a participant tries they will gain a sticker to pop onto their card, each sticker identifies one of the Olympic values. Once they have collected 5 values they are able to exchange these for a certificate and a prize (including a wrist band identifying an Olympic value). All participants will also be provided with a Sports Club directory to inform them of sports clubs in the Vale.
So what are you waiting for?! Get into the Olympic spirit and have a great day out!
